Forestry Management Guildlines

Studies at a number of unmanaged sites indicate that North Island brown kiwi are declining at an alarming rate of six percent per year – they’re halving every decade.

The Forestry Management Guidelines have been developed to help forest owners, managers and operators minimise damage to kiwi during forestry operations.

The guidelines look at:

  • North Island brown kiwi habits and behaviour
  • Risks and threats to kiwi in plantation forests
  • Management options for kiwi in plantation forests
  • Key contacts and emergency procedures for kiwi recovery during forestry operations
